Beauty for Ashes

In 2019 the Swan Lake fire devastated over 170,000 acres of Kenai Peninsula pristine forest. This past weekend my wife and I drove through that area on our way to visit friends … Nature’s restorative power amazed us!

What was a barren landscape of charred, skeletal trees and smoldering ashes just seven years ago, now was springing back to life … Creation’s “beauty for ashes” version of the Lord’s Isaiah 61 :3 promise to whatever ‘fires’ we may encounter along our life’s journey.

Here’s a few pics of Nature’s indefatigable resiliency in the process of renewing a fire ravaged wilderness to its former beauty, and of yet untouched, vast stretches of Last Frontier primal real estate that graced our eyes in wonder … it’s where angels go on sabbatical 😊

The final pic is of a young security guard we found on duty when we arrived back home 😊

  4. Devastation to restoration pictures certainly resemble our lives when we let God do the restoring…. My self-restoration projects…not so much

  5. I lived in North Kenai in the summer of 1972-fall ‘73! I remember the amazing forests that were easy to get lost in if you didn’t plan carefully!
So sad to see so much of it gone, but it will be back!🤠
