Flight

Since childhood flight has always fascinated me. Dreams of dueling it with the Red Barron in my biplane later morphed into Top Gun in my F/A-18 Super Hornet zooming through the skies blasting enemy pilots.

My pilot dreams met reality in the USMC troubleshooting electronics aboard lumbering helicopters, and being awarded hearing aids for my hearing loss 🦻

Birds are the masters of the air. Watching them effortlessly soar on thermals; gracefully dodging trees as they zip through the forest; or suddenly diving on their prey, I’m captivated in wondrous admiration.

Perhaps a recent proliferation of furry squirrels . . . a 5* hawk delicacy 😋. . . may have been a selling point for a pair of Broad-tailed hawks choosing to take up residence here. Yesterday I spooked them perched by the birdbath lurking in ambush for Skippy 🐿️. The gamecam captured them taking flight, and had me wishing I could skedaddle like that . . . but I’ll pass on squirrel stew 🤮

Here’s a short vid-clip of our new feathered couple, and sequential pics of their departure flight from ole Freddy👴. . . yet another of His amazing creations . . . the hawks, not me😊

Look at the birds of the air; they do now sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”

 Matthew 6:26

My pilot dreams never came to fruition. However, I rest content knowing someday, like the Broad-tailed hawks, I too will take flight and,

“… be caught up together with them in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be forever with the Lord forever.

I Thessalonians 4:17

Now that’s a flight with a John 3:16 pass you definitely don’t want to miss!

  4. What a beautifully written piece, blending nostalgia, faith, and awe for nature so seamlessly! Your reflections on flight—both earthly and eternal—stir the heart. Watching those magnificent hawks must feel like a sacred glimpse into God’s handiwork. And your verse references fit perfectly, lifting the spirit just like those birds on the wind.

Your story of serving in the USMC and trading Top Gun dreams for the reality of helicopters and hearing aids—so honest, so human. Thank you for your service and for reminding us that sometimes God gives us new wings in ways we don’t expect.

Wishing you many peaceful, hawk-watching days ahead. And if you enjoy slices of daily chaos with toddler giggles and faith-filled musings, I’d love to welcome you to my blog Twin Chaos & Toddler Giggles at twinmom73.wordpress.com or on Instagram @twintales2025. 💛🐦✨
